On May 5, 2017, the Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of Kazakhstan held the expert discussion on “Sacred Geography of Kazakhstan.
The experts discussed the "Sacred Geography of Kazakhstan" Project launched by President Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan in his article "Seeing the Future: Modernization of Values and Attitudes". One of the main speakers, the KazISS Adviser to the Director Berik Abdygaliuly emphasized the relevance of the Project in the current context and urged the implementers to focus their efforts on popularizing the historical monuments located in Kazakhstan and promoting local tourism to the places of great historical and cultural significance. The focus, according to the KazISS expert, shall be made on the young, as knowledge of one’s cultural history, under the project agenda, is a key component of the process aimed at preserving of the national identity.
The participating experts agreed that the Project will promote the positive image of Kazakhstan internationally, which has been mostly sustained by the rich natural resources and landmark foreign policy initiatives. Whereas successful implementation of the Project shall make Kazakhstan more recognizable internationally in terms of its rich cultural and natural attractions.
The event was participated by the Head of the Internal Policy Department of the South Kazakhstan Administration Tolegen Bolatbek, poet Khanbibi Esenkarakyzy, Professor of the Department of History of South Kazakhstan State Pedagogical University Sagygyali Abubekirov, Head of the Department of International Relations of South Kazakhstan State University Saken Muzhinbekov, and Head of the Center of Historical and Cultural Heritage of the South Kazakhstan Administration Hamit Tadiev.
