In the course of the official visit of President Nursultan Nazarbayev of Kazakhstan to the United Arab Emirates, the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of Kazakhstan (KazISS) and the Emirates Center for Strategic Studies and Research (ECSSR) signed the Agreement on Cooperation. The document is aimed at establishment the long-term relations between the KazISS and ECSSR and provides for continuous exchange of experts’ opinions on the current issues, implementation of joint projects and conducting expert meetings and other events. The signing ceremony was an opportunity for the two parties to exchange their visions of the future bilateral cooperation between the two nations in general and their think tanks in particular.
The ECSSR Director General Jamal Al-Suwaidi stressed the significance his institution sees in broadening and deepening contacts with the think tanks of Kazakhstan as they facilitate good relations between the two sates on the highest level. “The KazISS is the first, among the other similar Central Asian institutions, the ECSSR decided to signed such an important agreement”, he said during the ceremony.
In his turn, the KazISS Director Erlan Karin emphasized that due to the international situation think tanks throughout the world should build and strengthen their relationships with the purpose of providing thorough and objective analysis of the current developments.
The ECSSR was established March 14, 1994 under the Executive Order of the UAE President, His Highness Shaikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, then the Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Deputy Supreme Commander of the UAE Armed Forces. Accordingly, the ECSSR is an independent center for research and studies on social, economic and political issues with the focus on the United Arab Emirates, the Gulf States as well as the Arab world in its entirety.
