On July 31, 2017, the delegation of the National Institute for Defense Studies of Japan (NIDS), consisting of Senior Research Fellows Shigeki Akimoto, Hiroshi Yamazoe, Masayuki Masuda as well as the First Secretary of the Embassy of Japan in Kazakhstan Toyoda Takeshi, was received at the Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of Kazakhstan.
The Department for Foreign Policy and International Security Analysis of the KazISS was represented by Senior Research Fellow Iskander Akylbaev as well as Research Fellows Kymbat Nurgaliyeva and Adilkhan Gadelshiyev. The Director of the Center for International Security and Politics Alimzhan Akhmetov also attended the event.
The discussion covered the wide range of issues of bilateral and multilateral cooperation, namely the need for a stronger partnership at the regional and sub-regional levels and deeper cooperation in accordance with the earlier signed agreements between Astana and Tokyo.
The participants exchanged their views on the main principles and directions of Kazakhstan's foreign policy and the current issues of global and regional security.
The two sided concluded the event by expressing their willingness to maintain future contacts that would give the opportunity to exchange the views on the issues of the mutual interest.
