Meeting of the KAZISS Experts with Representatives of the Institute of West-Asian and African Studies at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences

 

On September 12, 2017, an expert meeting with representatives of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (IWAAS CASS) was held at the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The meeting was attended by the Director of IWAAS CASS Yang Guang, as well as leading researchers of the Institute of IWAAS CASS Jiang Mingxin, Chen Mo, Jiang Yingmei, Tong Fei and Liu Dong.

KazISS was represented by Deputy Director Sanat Kushkumbaev, Head of the Foreign Policy and International Security Department Meirat Omarov, as well as by the researcher of the Department, Kymbat Nurgaliyeva.

During the meeting, issues of political, economic and humanitarian cooperation between China and Kazakhstan were discussed. In particular, the prospects of implementing Chinese initiatives, such as, "One Belt One Way" and the Economic Belt of the Silk Road were touched upon.

Chinese colleagues showed interest in the diplomatic and peacekeeping activities of Kazakhstan as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, as well as the activities of the international financial center "Astana", in particular, the use of Islamic banking.

Along with this, an exchange of views was held on a wide range of issues of multilateral cooperation, as well as key issues of international and regional security. In addition, the importance of further development of cooperation between KazISS and Chinese analytical structures was noted.

 Following the meeting, the sides confirmed their interest in strengthening Kazakh-Chinese cooperation in the research sphere.
