On January 20, 2017, the Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of Kazakhstan held the online conference on the international negotiations on Syria that are to be hosted by Astana.
According to the experts participating in the conference, the negotiations shall be considered as an important step for resolution of the Syrian crisis. The participation of the key actors from outside the region will give added weight to the Astana Talks. The experts believe that Kazakhstan, once again providing a platform for conflict settlement, reaffirms its international stance of a nation striving for peace and harmony on the global scale. Astana Talks are the first event hosted by Kazakhstan as a Non-permanent Member UN Security Council.
The discussion was attended by the KazISS Deputy Director Sanat Kushkumbayev, Director of the Diplomacy Institute of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of Kazakhstan Anuar Ayazbekov, President of the "Open World" Center for Analysis and Forecast Olzhas Suleimenov, Director of the MGIMO Analytical Center Andrei Kazantsev and Analyst of African and Eurasian Affairs for The Jamestown Foundation Jacob Zenn.
