of 30 developed countries are the long-term goals of our independent state.

The annual meeting was held at the Kazakhstan Council on International Relations (KCIR)

The Chairman of the Senate of Kazakhstan’s Parliament, the Honorary Chairman of the KCIR Kassym-Zhomart Tokayev opened the meeting, emphasized that the Council should become an effective discussion center.

On the basis of in-depth and comprehensive analysis the Council needs to develop innovative approaches to address topical issues of Kazakhstan foreign policy on the world development trends.

The Honorary Chairman of the KCIR noted the turbulent nature of situation in the world, caused by the clash of two main trends – globalism and nationalism.

Currently, the nature of contemporary international relations is determined primarily by the competition for markets.

In this regard, a serious analysis is also needed on the processes in integration associations. 

The subject of special attention should be the Eurasian Economic Union from the point of view of strengthening its potential in the interests of the Kazakh economy.

Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev called the experts, to deal the problems of the SCO, which has become a serious factor in global politics. In a serious analytical support  the cooperation between Kazakhstan and main Central Asian countries should be developed.

According to K-Zh.Tokayev, the analytical work of Council should involve the representatives of institutes, centers, in a broad sense – all civil society in the form of non-governmental organizations.

Efforts of analysts will be in demand in the context of important upcoming geopolitical events, among which  the presentation of the International Financial Center in Astana; Summit of Heads of the Caspian states; 6th Congress of Leaders of World and Traditional Religions. These events will require an expert  professional forecasting for the medium and long term and produce useful recommendations.

 The Chairman of the Council Erlan Karin reported on the KCIR work for 2017 and information on priority activities for 2018-2019.

The Minister of Foreign Affairs (of the Republic of Kazakhstan) Kairat Abdrakhmanov, Assistant to the President Nurlan Onzhanov, First Deputy Chairman of the «Nur Otan» Party Maulen Ashimbayev, heads of the leading domestic think-tanks, representatives of the expert community, among them the KCIR member and Director of KazISS under the President of Kazakhstan Zarema Shaukenova participated in the meeting.
