On May 10-11, 2018 the 2nd Kazakhstan-Russia Expert Forum organized by the Kazakhstan Council on Foreign Relations and the Valdai International Discussion Club was held in Astana.
The forum was attended by the leading Kazakhstani and Russian experts specializing in Eurasian issues, including Chairman of the Kazakhstan Council on Foreign Relations Yerlan Karin, Chairman of the Board of the Foundation for Development and Support of the Valdai International Discussion Club Andrey Bystritsky, Director of the Institute of Diplomacy of the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Anuar Ayazbekov, Director of the Russian Center for strategy in the Asia Institute of Economics Georgy Toloraya, leading expert of Center for Military and Strategic Studies JSC Marat Shibutov, Head of the Center for Post-Soviet Studies of the Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences Elena Kuzmina, Executive Director of the Kazakhstan Council on Foreign Relations Iskander Akylbayev.
During the forum there were discussed problems of Eurasia in the era of global geopolitical transformation as a whole, challenges and prospects for Eurasian integration, strategy of actions and tools of China and the United States in the region as well as renewed cooperation in Central Asia were discussed.
Chief Research Officer of KazISS Vyacheslav Dodonov acted as a moderator of the session “Eurasian Integration: Challenges and Prospects”, at which presentations on the challenges and prospects of the EAEU and Eurasian integration as a whole were made by Marat Shibutov, Elena Kuzmina and Darmen Sadvokassov, Managing Partner of Dasco Consulting Group. In the course of the session, the current problems of implementing the integration project of the EAEU were outlined, the most promising directions of its development were identified, and new opportunities for closer cooperation in the field of investment and the development of financial markets were proposed.
