"Central Asia - 2020: four strategic concepts" report

On June 18th 2015, the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan within the framework of the international conference “Central Asia in geopolitical trends” presented its analytical report “Central Asia – 2020: Four Strategic Concepts.” The report was written by:  B.A. Auelbaev, S.K. Kushkumbayev, K.L. Syroezhkin, V.Y. Dodonov.

The report «Central Asia - 2020: four strategic concepts» is an attempt of modeling the situation in the foreseeable future. The document is based on examining the changing global trends, the emergence of new risks and challenges that are all facilitating to a rise of political uncertainty. While on the background, the relations among Central Asia, Russia and China will remain a regional core configuration

The proposed concepts were modeled by taking into consideration the already existing internal and regional processes that will be developing in the conditions of transformation of the system of international relations.

The time scope of the report of five years allows the authors to see beyond current developments in a rather conjectural character and to identify the trends of a more fundamental nature in order to provide a ground for long-term prognosis
