On May 23-24, 2018, the XV Eurasian Media Forum in Almaty gathered more than 800 delegates from 60 countries.
The opening speech was made by the Chairperson Dariga Nazarbayeva who emphasized the impact of the rapid development of the Internet, social networks and other communication. The availability of devices made it possible for everyone to participation in creating media events. Citizen journalism and bloggers compete for popularity with the MSM.
The event was attended by the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan Kairat Abdrakhmanov, the former Prime Minister of Italy Mateo Rentsi, representatives of various international organizations, the media from Kazakhstan and foreign countries.
The KazISS was represented
by Lesya Karataeva, Irina Chernykh, and Yuri Buluktaev.
The discussion covered the contemporary problems of the world development and the role of media. Particular attention was paid to the increasingly tense international political situation; the recent developments in the European Union; climate change and green technologies; the transformation of citizens' expectations from their national governments; decreasing confidence in public institutions, as well as new the issues of the molding of values and their use in order to form a new worldview.
The key concept of the Eurasian Media Forum was “evolution”. Thus, “fake news” was considered through the prism of the evolution of information technologies and the growth of blogosphere and its competition with mainstream media.
