During the meeting Chairman of the Board Jiang Feng stressed that for the SISU founded in December 1949 one of the priority activities is to study the Central Asian region. Professor of School of International Relations Yang Cheng noted that the main purpose of Chinese delegation’s visit to Kazakhstan is to further develop cooperation with partner organizations and think tanks, as well as expand the resource base for providing in-depth studies and training the University’s staff. Besides, Yang Cheng added that it is planned to sign an agreement with the L.N.Gumilyov Eurasian National University within the framework of which the joint work of the two universities on the training and exchange of students will be established. In addition, he informed that the SISU consists of 20 faculties in which in 2018 one of the specialties is introduced the Kazakh language. At present time twelve Chinese students study on this direction.
During the meeting the experts discussed a wide range of issues of bilateral political, economic and cultural-humanitarian cooperation between China and Kazakhstan, including the prospects for implementing China's One Belt, One Road (OBOR) initiative. Meanwhile, experts also touched upon the actual issues of multilateral cooperation in the context of the state visit of Kazakhstan’s President Nursultan Nazarbayev to China and his participation at the meeting of the Council of Heads of member states of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) on June 9-10.
In its turn, Sanat Kushkumbaev noted that China and Kazakhstan play a key role in the development of the SCO and are increasing all-round cooperation both at the bilateral level and within the organization. According to his opinion, the Central Asian countries are interested in implementing projects within the framework of OBOR initiative, the implementation of which contributes to closer regional cooperation.
Following the meeting, both sides reaffirmed their commitment to further strengthening Kazakh-Chinese relations in all areas of strategic cooperation, as well as expanding scientific and expert relations between the KazISS and the SISU.
