Meeting with the staff of the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies

An expert meeting with the staff of the Shanghai Institutes for International Studies (SIIS) was held at the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the RK on August 29, 2018.

The meeting was attended by the President of SIIS Chen Dongxiao, Assistant to the President, Director of the Institute for Global Governance Studies E Qing, Deputy Director and Head of the Center for Russian and Central Asian Studies Qiang Xiaoyun. KazISS was represented by the Director Zarema Shaukenova, Deputy Director Sanat Kushkumbaev, Senior Research Fellow of the Department of International Studies (ISD) Anastassiya Reshetnyak, Research Fellows of ISD Kymbat Nurgalieva and Temirlan Eskendir.

As a sign of long-term partnership of the two analytical structures, Zarema Shaukenova awarded the director of SIIS, Cheng Dongxiao, with a commemorative medal dedicated to the 25th anniversary of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies.

During the meeting, a fruitful dialogue was held on the processes in international relations, the impact of the relationship in the China-Russia-US triangle on the agenda and development of the countries of Central Asia.

The sides highly appreciated the results of the "Belt and Road" Initiative. Since its proclamation by the Chinese leader Xi Jinping 5 years ago in Astana, Kazakhstan and China have been fruitfully working on its elimination with the state program of the RK "Nurly Zhol". The experts shared their vision of problems and prospects for implementation, as well as the role of Kazakhstan and other countries of the region in it.

The experts from KazISS and SIIS expressed mutual interest in expanding partnership relations, exchanging views on topical issues, conducting research and activities to deepen the scientific cooperation of the two countries.
