On 2nd of May, was heldan expert discussion on the topic “Elections 2019 in Kazakhstan: continuity and stability of domestic and foreign policy,” organized by the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
In his statement on holding early elections, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.K. Tokayev emphasized that in order to ensure social and political harmony in the country and to solve the problems of socio-economic development, Kazakhstan “needs to remove any uncertainty” regarding the future political course. In this context, the candidate’s ability to ensure the consistency and continuity of the current political course becomes the principal criterion for voters.
During the meeting, experts discussed key aspects of domestic and foreign policy of Kazakhstan in the focus of the upcoming early elections of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, scheduled for June 9. Zarema Shaukenova, Director of KazISS under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, made a welcoming speech, highlighting the timeliness of the upcoming elections, the results of which will determine the future development of Kazakhstan based on the electoral preferences of candidates ’election programs. During the discussion, Lyazat Nurkatova, the director of the National Resource Center for Social Work expressed the opinion that it is important and of top priority to continue the social initiatives of the state to improve the quality and standard of living of all people of Kazakhstan.
At the same time, Aigul Sadvokasova, head of the Center for the Study of Interethnic and Interfaith Relations in the Central Asian Region, in her speech noted that the issue of stability and preservation of interethnic and interfaith unity and harmony remains one of the important aspects of state development.
The deputy director of the KazISS under the President of Republic of Kazakhstan Sanat Kushkumbayev spoke about the foreign policy of the country. In his opinion, the election results will introduce a new dynamic in the country's foreign policy and consolidate Kazakhstan’s reputation as a consistent and predictable partner in the international arena.
Director of the Institute of Asian Studies Sultan Akimbekov, Director of Projects Research Institute "Public Opinion" Botagoz Rakisheva, Head of the Research Center "Sacred Kazakhstan" Abdigaliuly Berik, Head of the National Scientific and Practical Center Anar Fazylzhan, public figure, blogger took an active part in the discussion, Galym Baituk and some of experts in the field of domestic and foreign policy.
