On May 21, 2020, the international online conference “Abay and the 21st Century: the continuity over time” dedicated to the 175th anniversary of Abay Kunanbayev took place. The conference was organized by the International Turkic Academy on the eve of its 10th anniversary.
The conference was attended by the President of the International Turkic Academy Darkhan Kydyrali, the head of the UNESCO Asian and Pacific Department Andrey Shevelev, the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan Askhat Aimagambetov, the Minister of Culture, Information and Tourism of the Kyrgyz Republic Azamat Zhamankulov, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Azerbaijan to Kazakhstan Rashad Mammadov, Deputy Secretary General of the Turkic Council Sultan Rayev, Deputy Secretary General of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-Speaking Countries (TURKPA) Ali Yıldız, Chairman of the Turkish National Commission for UNESCO Öcal Oğuz, Vice-President of the Azerbaijan National Academy of Sciences, Academician Isa Habibbeyli, Special Envoy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan Batyrkhan Kurmanseit, Chairman of the Turkish Language Association in Turkey, Professor Gyurer Gyulsevin, as well as famous Turkologists from Azerbaijan, Bashkortostan (RF), Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Mongolia, Turkey, Tatarstan (RF) and Uzbekistan.
The conference began with greetings and statements of congratulations from the guests. The head of the UNESCO Asian and Pacific Department Andrey Shevelev congratulated those present on the anniversary of the great poet, read a message of congratulations on behalf of UNESCO Deputy Director General Firmin Eduard Matoko, and wished the conference to be successful.
Minister of Education and Science Askhat Aimagambetov also congratulated all participants on the anniversary dates and noted that the study and popularization of the heritage of Great Abay is our common duty. “Abai is a spiritual teacher for the Kazakh people, the figure of national culture and literature,” the minister added. The Minister of Culture, Information and Tourism of the Kyrgyz Republic Azamat Zhamankulov thanked the Academy and all partners for the work done, and also wished further success.
During the meeting several new books were presented, which were prepared and published by the International Turkic Academy dedicated to the 175th anniversary of Abay Kunanbayev.
Then a plenary meeting of the conference was held, in which well-known scientists took part - the director of Institute of Language and Literature named after Chingiz Aitmatov, academician Abdyldazhan Akmataliyev (Kyrgyzstan), the director of the Institute of History, Language and Literature of the Ufa Science Center of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Professor Firdaus Hisamitdinova (Bashkortostan), Professor, Head of the Department of Tatar Literature, Faculty of Tatar Philology and Culture named after G. Tukai, Institute of Philology and Intercultural Communication named after Leo Tolstoy KFU Alfat Zakirzyanov, a famous expert on Abay, Doctor of Philology, Professor Mekemtas Myrzahmetov (Kazakhstan), Director of the Institute of Literature and Art named after M. Auezov, Professor Kenzhehan Matyzhanov (Kazakhstan), Chairman of the Writers Union of Eurasia Yakup Ömeroğlu (Turkey), Professor Nergis Biray (Turkey), Professor Kozokboy Yoldaşev (Uzbekistan), prominent writer - translator, professor Sultan Taukeyulı (Mongolia), Doctor Dávid Shomfai Kara (Hungary). Scientists presented substantive reports and shared their research on the work of Abay Kunanbayev. They noted that the creative heritage of the Great Poet brings nations together. His ideas, moral and humanistic principles are relevant today not only in the Turkic world but for the whole of humanity.
In addition, researchers from many countries of the world took part in the conference as online participants, and users of social networks had the opportunity to watch it live.
KazISS under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan at the online conference was represented by head of the Department of International Studies Assel Nazarbetova, leading research fellow of the Department of Social and Political Studies Madina Bektenova, leading research fellow of the Department of Social and Economic studies Almas Arzikulov and senior research fellow of the Department of International Studies Kymbat Nurgaliyeva.
It is necessary to note that the KazISS under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the framework of the 175th anniversary of the great Kazakh poet and thinker Abay Kunanbayuly translated to Russian the article of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan K.K. Tokaev - "Abay zhane XXI gasyrdagy Kazakhstan", thereby contributed to the popularization of the heritage of the great Kazakh thinker.
