On May 29, 2020 Nur-Sultan hosted the International Online Conference «Kazakhstan: Politics of Historical Memory» as part of the annual international project of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan «Memory for the Future», dedicated to the Day of Remembrance of the Victims of Political Repression and Famine.
The first deputy head of the Presidential Executive Office D.Abaev, deputy chairman of the Assembly of the People of Kazakhstan Zh.Tuimebayev, chairman of the Council of the Assembly of the Peoples of Russia S. Smirnova, deputy of the House of Representatives of the National Assembly of the Republic of Belarus P.Zhdanovich, President of the Russian State University for the Humanities Y.Pivovar, screenwriter, director, granddaughter of a prisoner of the Akmola camp of wives of traitors to the Motherland «ALZHIR» L.Frenkel and D.Violina, director of the Archive of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan D.Abdukadyrov, deputies of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Kazakhstan and foreign scientists and experts, descendants of the repressed, members of the APK, representatives of the scientific and creative intelligentsia, the scientific and expert community of the Assembly as well as the state bodies and ethnocultural associations took part in the online conference.
Opening the conference, the first deputy head of the Presidential Administration Dauren Abayev emphasized that from the first days of independence, Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev paid special attention to preserving the historical memory of the events of those years, and the Head of State Kasym-Zhomart Tokayev has consistently continued this course.
Later the participants were presented a historical and documentary exhibition of the Archive of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the presentations based on the materials of the KarLAG and ALZHIR museum-memorial complexes.
KazISS under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan was represented by experts from the Socio-Political Research Department Madina Bektenova and Aidana Akessina.
