In February 16, 2021, a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to the Republic of Kazakhstan Alexey Borodavkin was held at the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. At the meeting, he was accompanied by the senior adviser of the Embassy Yuri Melnik and the first secretary of the Embassy Ivan Ryzhkov.
Director Zarema Shaukenova, Deputy Director Sanat Kushkumbayev, Secretary for Academic and Research Affairs Kazbek Issayev and Head of the International Studies Department Asel Nazarbetova took part in the meeting on behalf of the KazISS under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The purpose of the meeting was to exchange views on a number of topical issues of Kazakh-Russian relations, the role of diplomatic missions and scientific and analytical structures in deepening bilateral cooperation. In particular, A. Borodavkin noted the high potential of the scientific and expert community of Kazakhstan, the presence of regular contacts between the brain centers of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation. The need was emphasized for activating and intensifying the dialogue between the scientific and expert communities of the two countries on topical issues and promising areas of cooperation, with the publication of objective and verified information on the development of relations both in bilateral and multilateral formats within the EAEU, CSTO and other international structures.
The director of KazISS spoke about long-standing ties with Russian colleagues, including partners in the Russian Federation - the Russian Institute for Strategic Studies (RISS), the Primakov National Research Institute of World Economy and International Relations of the Russian Academy of Sciences (IMEMO RAS), the Institute of Oriental Studies the Russian Academy of Sciences. In addition, in order to deepen and intensify the existing level of cooperation, a number of practical areas of interaction with Russian think tanks were proposed.
Following the meeting, the parties noted the relevance and expediency of expanding contacts between scientists and experts of the two countries against the background of the transformation of external conditions, the implementation of joint projects on topical issues of bilateral and interregional interaction, international security, joint events and exchange of views in order to strengthen mutually beneficial cooperation between the Republic Kazakhstan and the Russian Federation.
