In April 5-6, 2021, in the format of a video conference, advanced training courses were held for Kazakh diplomats on the topic "Topical issues of ensuring international security", organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan in conjunction with the Academy of Public Administration under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
The speakers were Dastan Eleukenov, Counselor to the Director of the KazISS under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan; General Director of JSC "Kazakhstan Nuclear Power Plants" Timur Zhantikin; Togzhan Kasenova, Senior Research Fellow, Center for Policy Studies, University of Albany, USA; Deputy Director of the National Nuclear Center of the Republic of Kazakhstan Sergey Berezin; Director of the International Organizations and Nonproliferation Program of the Vienna Center for Disarmament and Nonproliferation (James Martin Center at the Middlebury Institute) Gaukhar Mukhatzhanova.
During the event, the participants got acquainted with the current situation and the main trends in the field of nuclear disarmament, the regimes for the prohibition of biological and chemical weapons, export control, the activities of international organizations in this area, and also held interactive discussions on all issues of interest.
Separate discussions were devoted to the 30th anniversary of the closure of the Semipalatinsk test site, the historic decision of the First President of the Republic of Kazakhstan - Elbasy Nursultan Nazarbayev, as well as the country's disarmament activities over the years of independence. The experts highlighted the new international initiatives of the Head of State Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, including the creation of the International Agency for Biological Safety.
