On August 26, 2021 in Nur-Sultan under the auspices of the celebration of the 30th anniversary of Independence of the Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as within the framework of the implementation of the "Comprehensive plan for the implementation of state policy in the religious sphere of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2021-2023", an event was held on the topic: «Діни фундаментализмнің діни-саяси өзекті мәселелері».
The event was organized by the Center for the Study of Religions in Nur-Sultan.
The seminar was attended by representatives of government agencies, the scientific and expert community and the corps of imams of the capital.
Speakers at the event were Yerzhan Nukezhanov, Chairman of the Committee on Religious Affairs of the Ministry of Information and Social Development of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Yershat Ongarov, Deputy Mufti of the Spiritual Directorate of Muslims of Kazakhstan, Head of the Department for Religious Affairs of Nur-Sultan Nurdaulet Almukhanov, Head of the Department of the Academy of Law Enforcement Agencies under the General Prosecutor's Office of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Burkit Nurmagambetov, sociologist-researcher Serik Beisembayev, as well as leading experts in the religious sphere.
Madina Bektenova, a leading research fellow, spoke on behalf of the KazISS under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan at the event as a speaker-lecturer on the topic: "Religious fundamentalism and identity issues".
The participants of the seminar discussed the achievements of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the religious sphere, issues of prevention of extremism and socio-political aspects of religious fundamentalism. In particular, Yerzhan Nukezhanov dwelled on the directions and main results of the work of the Committee on Religious Affairs, outlined a range of topical problems and issues for discussion in the field of state-confessional relations and the prevention of religious extremism. Naib Mufti Ershat Ongarov noted the selfless work of the country's imams during the pandemic, the successful experience of transferring some of the events to the online format, as well as the importance of increasing religious literacy and education among the population in order to prevent radicalization of the consciousness of believers. N. Almukhanov spoke about the peculiarities of information and explanatory work among the population of the capital.
During the event, scientists-experts B. Nurmagambetov, S. Beisembayev, M. Bektenova, as speakers-lecturers of the seminar, made reports on religious fundamentalism, extremism and terrorism, factors of radicalization, prevention of the spread of destructive and extremist ideas. They also presented the results of their research and developed recommendations on the topic of the work agenda.
Proposals and recommendations of the participants based on the results of the event will be sent to state bodies responsible for the implementation of state policy in the field of religion.
