The continuation of the activities of the KazISS under the direction of Sultanov B.K. in 2012 – 2014 it became the further strengthening of the Institute as a leading «think tank» of the country and an authoritative Kazakhstan analytical center at the world level.

Jl9U9ViYDuring this period of its activity, the Institute acts as an important dialogue platform for holding expert meetings and discussing topical issues of domestic and foreign policy. So, in 2012, KazISS was held a round table dedicated to the State of the Nation Address of Elbasy N.A.Nazarbayev to the people of Kazakhstan «Socio-economic modernization is the main vector of development of Kazakhstan». At the same time, as part of the development of bilateral cooperation, the Institute held round tables in 2012 and 2013 on security and development in Central Asia with the participation of representatives of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China. 

In 2012 - 2014 KazISS continued to work in strengthening international relations with strategic partners. The Institute signed a memorandum of understanding and cooperation with the Center for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in 2012.

One of the important events in the history of the Institute was the adoption by the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan on April 11, 2014 of Decree №793 «On the redeployment of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan in Astana».


b8e80dZfThe relocation of KazISS to Astana was implemented by B.K. Sultanov, who managed to quickly organize the relocation of the Institute, providing the necessary material and technical conditions.

By order of the head of state in October 2014, Yerlan Karin Tynymbayuly - candidate of political Sciences, the famous researcher of the problems of terrorism and religious extremism, holder of the order "Kurmet" and the badge " Ғылымды дамытуға сіңірген еңбегі үшін" was appointed director of the KazISS under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Ph.D. He led the KazISS from October 2014 to February 2017.


DqL3zHtxUnder the leadership of Yerlan Karin, expert meetings were held with representatives of renowned analytical centers abroad (China, UK, Afghanistan, Uzbekistan), as well as courses for young experts in the framework of the KazISS Summer school on security.

d5J8WW66During this period, the Institute focused on the further development of one of the main directions in its activities - the holding of the annual KazISS conference on security in Central Asia, which serves as an effective platform for exchanging opinions and developing expert recommendations on a wide range of global and regional security issues. The five-year conferences were devoted to the following topics: «Current Security Issues in Central Asia», «Sustainable Development and Effective Resource Policies», «European Union - Kazakhstan - Russia: New Paradigm of Interaction», «Central Asia in Global Geopolitical Trends» and «Central Asia in the security system».

In 2015, KazISS signed a memorandum of understanding with the Institute of Strategic and Interregional Studies under the President of the Republic of Uzbekistan.

kqoPrBKvDuring this period, under the auspices of the KazISS, publications of well-known Kazakh scientists and analysts were published, including the analytical report «Central Asia - 2020: Four Strategic Concepts» (2015), the book by M.Т. Laumulin «History of Kazakhstan and Central Asia in World Orientalism», dedicated to the 550th anniversary of the Kazakh Khanate in 4 volumes (2015 - 2016), monograph by V.Y. Dodonov «The changing role of the United States in the global economy: trends and the impact on global stability» (2016).

A significant event for the Institute was the entry of the KazISS at the end of 2016 into the top list of 150 world «think tanks» according to the rating of the Research Program of the University of Pennsylvania Analytical Centers and Civil Society, which is recognition of the great achievements of the Institute in research activities.
