Kazakhstan’s state diaspora policy aims to regulate issues in the field of repatriation of ethnic Kazakhs to Kazakhstan and support for compatriots living abroad.

During the years of independence a number of legal documents have been adopted and implemented in this area, including the State programmes to support compatriots living abroad in 1996 and 2005-2007, as well as plans for their implementation, the «Nurly kosh» programme (Kazakh: Нұрлы көш) for 2009-2011, The Concept of Migration Policy of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2017-2021.
