KazISS hosted an expert meeting with the National Institute for Strategic Studies of Kyrgyzstan

On May 17, 2022 the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan in cooperation with the National Institute for Strategic Studies (NISS) of the Kyrgyz Republic held an expert online discussion on “Kazakhstan – Kyrgyzstan: status and potential of strategic partnership”.

The expert meeting with NISS was held on the eve of the visit of the President of Kazakhstan K.K. Tokayev to Kyrgyzstan. There are great opportunities between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan to unlock the potential of socio-economic interaction. It is necessary to reset relations between the fraternal countries in the new environment of political and economic reforms.

During the expert meeting they discussed the most topical issues of bilateral cooperation, in particular in the fields of hydropower, green economy, trade and economic cooperation, development of transit potential, transport communications, production of environmental products, etc.

Yerkin Tukumov, the Director of KazISS, highlighted the necessity to exchange information and expert assessments on existing problems, and to find solutions together to improve and strengthen interaction and cooperation between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan.

Rustam Asizbaev, the Director of NISS, proposed the implementation of joint research projects on security and socio-economic development of countries in the context of the international and regional agenda.

The participants of the expert discussion agreed that there is a demand for regular meetings of this format, in which there is an opportunity to openly and substantively discuss existing problems, to seek points of contact to uncover the prospects for cooperation in the interests of the two countries.
