Kazakhstan and Tajikistan have a great unused potential of cooperation

Director of the KazISS under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerkin Tukumov held a working meeting with the leadership of the Tajikistan Center for Strategic Studies in Dushanbe. The sides discussed the prospects of cooperation between the two states, possibilities of regional cooperation and upcoming events of high level this year, including the visit of the President of the Republic of Tajikistan Emomali Rakhmon in Astana.

During the meeting, Yerkin Tukumov stressed the systematic and strategic nature of relations between two states, and also noted, that Kazakhstan is the leading economic partner of Tajikistan, second after China in terms of trade turnover. In recent years, this indicator has been steadily growing and according to the 2022 results, it has approached 1,5 billion dollars, which is 23% more than a year earlier. The head of the KazISS made an emphasis on promising areas of the economy in which the two countries have a great unused potential for cooperation. Among them are the food industry, agriculture, energy and digital technologies. The Director of the KazISS under the President of the Republic of Tajikistan spoke about the importance of research cooperation between analytical centers and suggested holding a Kazakh-Tajik expert forum in the coming months.

The meeting was held in the framework of the international conference «Tajikistan and Central Asia: the policy of good neighborliness, mutual assistance, eternal friendship and joint development», which is going to take place on March, 10 in Dushanbe.
