Experts from KazISS participated in a public talk with a leading theorist of contemporary international relations

On September 19, 2024, Astana hosted the first joint event of the Qalam Club and the Kazakhstan Council on International Relations (KICR), dedicated to the topic of forming a new world order and transitioning from Western dominance to deep pluralism. The event was held in the format of a public talk.

The main speaker was Barry Buzan, one of the leading theorists in contemporary international relations and an honorary professor at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE).

The meeting featured participation from the State Counsellor Erlan Karin and entrepreneur and founder of Freedom Holding Corp., Timur Turlov. The event was moderated by Yerkin Tukumov, Director of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan. Experts from KazISS under the President of Kazakhstan, as well as leading Kazakhstani experts in international relations, also took part in the discussion.

Barry Buzan is known as the author of the theory of securitization and one of the founders of the Copenhagen School of Security Studies. The event facilitated an active exchange of opinions and assessments regarding the transformation of the international relations and security system.
