On January 30, 2025, a meeting was held at the Representative Office of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (KazISS) in Almaty with representatives of the British Embassy in Kazakhstan. The attendees included Samuel Charles Mills, Head of the Policy and Communications Department, and Larisa Kanafinа, Policy and Governance Adviser at the Embassy.
The purpose of the visit was to meet with KazISS experts in Almaty, familiarize themselves with the activities of KazISS’s Representative Office in the city—particularly its main research areas—and discuss potential cooperation prospects, including joint events and projects. KazISS experts shared their academic interests and key research topics.
During the meeting, discussions focused on Kazakhstan’s bilateral relations with key partners, opportunities, challenges, and risks of cooperation in the context of the evolving geopolitical landscape, as well as upcoming economic reforms announced during a government meeting attended by the Head of State.
Both parties expressed interest in establishing connections between research and analytical centers, as well as experts from the UK and Kazakhstan. They also discussed participation in expert platforms of both countries, where global affairs, geopolitical and economic issues, and regional and global challenges are analyzed.
