Today, Director of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerkin Tukumov held a meeting with the Permanent Coordinator of the United Nations (hereinafter – the UN) in the Republic of Kazakhstan Mikaela Friberg-Storey.
Speaking about the research activities and future projects of the Institute, Yerkin Tukumov said: “On July 13-14, 2023, KazISS plans to create a new initiative platform with the support of President K. Tokayev – the Central Asian Forum on Security and Cooperation. The first topic will be “Asia in the Changing World: Agenda for the Future” (Asia in the Changing World: Agenda for the Future)”.
During the discussion, the participants expressed confidence in the great potential of expert cooperation on the issues of the UN Sustainable Development Goals (hereinafter – SDGs). The parties noted that the democratic reforms carried out in Kazakhstan aimed at reducing poverty, developing human capital, and diversifying the economy are related to the SDGs.
Ms. Friberg-Storey noted: “It is an honor for me to work in Kazakhstan, whose president, Mr. Tokayev, regularly declares his commitment to the SDGs, a multilateral approach in politics. Such constant support at the highest level makes our work easier.”
In addition, the participants of the meeting exchanged views on the upcoming elections and democratization of Kazakhstan’s society, regional inequality, climate change as a security factor, in particular, water policy.
Summing up, the parties expressed hope for fruitful cooperation and regular expert interaction.
