The Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (KazISS) is a state forecasting and analytical institution established in accordance with the Decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan on June 16, 1993.
Role and values
The main function of the Institute is analytical, research and expert support of the activities of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan on strategic directions of domestic and foreign policy of the state.
International rating
According to the Global Go To Think Tank Index Report for 2020 (Global Go To Think Tank Index Report, University of Pennsylvania), KazISS leads the top three think tanks in the Caucasus, Central and South Asia (out of 58 centers), and is also among the top think tanks in the world in the nomination “Best Policy and Institutional Response to Covid-19”. This nomination included 83 think tanks from all over the world, among which KISI was the only one from Central Asia.
According to the results of the World Index-Rating of think tanks for 2016, the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan for the first time entered the top 150 best “think tanks” in the world among 6 thousand analytical institutes and centers. Previously, the Institute was included in the global ranking only within individual categories and directions.
