Today, after a long illness, our respected colleague, a well-known scientist, chief research fellow of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Mr. Murat Turarovich Laumulin passed away.
In 1982, Murat Laumulin completed a special course at the History Department of the S.M. Kirov Kazakh State University. Then he continued his education at the USSR Academy of Sciences, where he became a candidate of historical sciences, doctor of political sciences.
He began his career at the Kazakh State University, and in different years worked at the Institute of Oriental Studies of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Department of International Security and Armed Control of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Embassy of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the Federal Republic of Germany, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Undoubtedly, the brightest moments of Murat Turarovich’s labor activity are inextricably linked with the Kazakhstan Institute of Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Working in our institute since its foundation, he contributed to the formation and development of analytics in Kazakhstan.
The expert community called Murat Laumulin “the brand of KazISS”. Our colleague quite corresponded to it. Murat Turarovich’s passing is a great loss for the entire expert community of Kazakhstan.
Murat Turarovich Laumulin is a scientist who has devoted his entire conscious life to science, written dozens of monographs and hundreds of articles on national security, foreign policy, Central Asian geopolitics, Kazakhstan’s relations with the West, US strategy in Central Asia, EU strategy in Central Asia. Among them is the 4-volume work “History of Kazakhstan and Central Asia in World Oriental Studies”, recognized in the professional scientific environment. Murat Turarovich formed and developed a special direction in science – the school of Central Asia studies in world geopolitics.
The staff of the Kazakhstan Institute of Strategic Studies expresses sincere and deep condolences to the family, relatives and friends of the deceased in connection with irreparable loss.
