Aidar Kurmashev, Head of the Asian Studies Department of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, attended the international conference “Ulaanbaatar Dialogue on Security in Northeast Asia”, which was held in Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. The meeting was organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and the Institute for Strategic Studies under the National Security Council of Mongolia.
The conference was attended by more than 60 representatives from 20 countries, scholars, ambassadors to Mongolia, and heads and representatives of diplomatic missions. Some of the most important topics of discussion were approaches to ensuring security on the Asian continent, the need to develop new confidence-building measures in the context of geopolitical turbulence. Aidar Kurmashev outlined Kazakhstan’s approaches to the issue of ensuring regional and international security. The effective role of the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia in ensuring a balanced approach to peace and stability in the region was also emphasized.
The conference participants exchanged views on key trends in the region’s development and major security risks in Northeast Asia. In the opinion of those gathered at the conference, the development of expert dialog makes it possible to broaden understanding of the positions of the parties and to work out in detail the issues of cooperation on specific points of convergence of interests.
