Development of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the UAE: focus on trade, renewable energy and regional cooperation

Director of the KazISS and President of Emirates Policy Center spoke about the development of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates in the framework of the forum, organized by the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of Kazakhstan.

On July 14, director of KazISS Yerkin Tukumov held a meeting with Al-Ketbi Ebtesam, President of the Emirates Policy Center.

The development of cooperation between Kazakhstan and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) is one of the priority areas for both countries. Since 1992, work has been actively carried out to strengthen cooperation in various sectors. The participants of the meeting talked about this, noting the stable growth of trade between the two countries. “The UAE is one of Kazakhstan’s largest trading partners in the Middle East, and mutual trade turnover exceeds 700 million dollars,” KazISS Director Yerkin Tukumov said in his welcoming speech.

Speaking about cooperation, the parties noted the development in the renewable energy sector. The UAE’s experience in renewable energy technologies, especially solar energy, opens up opportunities for cooperation with Kazakhstan in developing clean energy projects.

Both countries actively participate in regional platforms such as the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) and the Conference on Interaction and Confidence Building Measures in Asia (CICA), which provides opportunities for dialogue and cooperation on regional issues.

Experts expressed mutual interest in further developing cooperation at the expert level, which could be facilitated by establishing effective communication channels as well as conducting joint research.
