On January 17, 2025, the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (KazISS) held a videoconference with the Elcano Royal Institute for International and Strategic Studies (Spain). The Ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan to Spain, Danat Mussayev, also participated in the meeting.
During the videoconference, key aspects of bilateral cooperation between Kazakhstan and Spain were discussed, along with the role of expert-level collaboration in strengthening ties between Kazakhstan and the European Union.
KazISS Director Yerkin Tukumov highlighted the importance of enhancing engagement with international partners, emphasizing the pivotal role of strategic studies in shaping the country’s foreign policy course.
Elcano Institute Director Charles Powell expressed gratitude to KazISS for the initiative and voiced interest in continuing dialogue on pressing international issues.
The Elcano Royal Institute (Real Instituto Elcano de Estudios Internacionales y Estratégicos, RIE) is based in Madrid. It was established in 2001 as a private foundation with support from Spain’s Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Economy, Defense, Education, Culture and Sports, and the state railway company RENFE. The institute’s primary mission is to “promote public knowledge about international affairs and Spain’s external relations in all their dimensions.”
The outcomes of the videoconference solidified mutual interest in deepening cooperation between Kazakhstan and Spain in the research and analytical fields.
