Meeting with the German Ambassador Held at KazISS

On July 25, 2025, the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (KazISS) hosted a meeting with the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Federal Republic of Germany to Kazakhstan, Monica Iwersen.

During the meeting, the parties discussed the current state and prospects of Kazakh-German relations, highlighting the active political dialogue and the growth of bilateral trade. The discussion also covered energy cooperation, including opportunities in green energy, as well as the development of transport and logistics corridors.

Director of KazISS Zhandos Shaimardanov expressed the Institute’s interest in deepening expert dialogue with leading German think tanks, such as the German Institute for International and Security Affairs (SWP), the German Council on Foreign Relations (DGAP), and the Centre for East European and International Studies (ZOiS), noting that initial contacts with German partners had been established in 2023.

In turn, Ms. Iwersen emphasized that Germany views Kazakhstan as a promising partner and underlined the importance of stable expert-level ties between the two countries.

Particular attention during the conversation was given to the prospects of Kazakhstan’s participation in the Berlin Global Dialogue – an annual international conference that brings together representatives of business, government, and academia to discuss and develop solutions to key global economic challenges – as well as Germany’s potential involvement in the upcoming Astana Think Tank Forum, scheduled for October this year.

The meeting demonstrated mutual interest in expanding cooperation and outlined concrete areas for strengthening expert ties, economic collaboration, and joint participation in international analytical platforms.
