On May 30, during the Astana International Forum 2025, Yerkin Tukumov, Director of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, met with Charles Powell, Director of the Elcano Royal Institute.
The Elcano Royal Institute (Real Instituto Elcano de Estudios Internacionales y Estratégicos; RIE) is a Madrid-based think tank that focuses on international affairs and Spain’s foreign policy. One of its core missions is to foster a deeper understanding of the global landscape and Spain’s role within it.
During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on current global trends in technology and innovation.
The discussion also covered key demographic trends in Kazakhstan, with a particular emphasis on the role of youth in the country’s socio-economic development.
Cultural and humanitarian aspects of cooperation were also addressed, with both parties underscoring the importance of intercultural dialogue, educational initiatives, and joint programs aimed at fostering mutual understanding and strengthening human capital.
Both sides noted the value of expanding expert-level collaboration as a crucial component of enhanced mutual understanding.
