On October 8, 2025, a meeting was held at the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (KazISS) between Zhandos Shaimardanov, KazISS Director and Alexey Borodavkin, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Kazakhstan.
During the meeting, the parties discussed current issues of bilateral and regional cooperation, prospects for developing the strategic partnership, and ways to further deepen analytical collaboration between Kazakhstan and Russia.
Shaimardanov noted that Kazakhstan and Russia maintain a constructive and pragmatic dialogue based on the principles of trust, mutual respect, and strategic partnership.
The participants also exchanged views on the agenda of upcoming bilateral and multilateral events. Particular attention was paid to issues of cultural, humanitarian, and academic cooperation in particular, the activities of Russian university branches in Kazakhstan and the education of Kazakhstan students in Russia.
The meeting also addressed prospects for expert collaboration. Shaimardanov emphasized that KazISS actively cooperates with the Institute of World Economy and International Relations and other Russian analytical centers.
For his part, Ambassador Borodavkin highlighted the high level of Kazakhstan–Russia relations and expressed support for the further development of expert cooperation. He stressed that dialogue between think tanks plays an important role in strengthening mutual understanding and trust between the two countries.
The KazISS Director also informed the Russian Ambassador about the upcoming Astana Think Tank Forum, which will bring together leading experts and policymakers to discuss key global challenges and explore pathways from polarization to partnership.
