On 8 November 2022, an expert forum entitled “China and Central Asia: a New Path to Joint Development” was held online. The forum was organised by the Institute of Russia, Eastern Europe and Central Asia of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the National Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Kyrgyz Republic, the Centre for Strategic Studies under the President of Tajikistan, and the Institute of International Relations of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Turkmenistan.
The forum was attended by Gao Xiang, member of the 20th Central Committee of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), vice-president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, Zhang Ming, Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation as well as Shahrat Nuryshev, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Kazakhstan to the PRC.
In his speech, Yerkin Tukumov, Director of KazISS, pointed out the need to increase the effectiveness of interaction in the fields of economy and trade, as well as to expand the role of cooperation in science and research.
