KazISS experts discussed key areas of expert interaction between Kazakhstan and Iran

Director of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Yerkin Tukumov met with the delegation of Iran – Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs, President of the Institute of Political and International Studies of the Iranian Foreign Ministry Mohammad Hassan Sheikholeslami, Advisor to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Iran Sajjadpour Seyed Mohammad Kazem, Senior Expert of the Institute of Political and International Studies at the Iranian Foreign Ministry Agarazi Dormani Bahman and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Iran in Kazakhstan by Ali Akbar Jokar.

One of the main topics of the meeting of the Director of the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies with the Iranian delegation was Iran’s entry into the Shanghai Cooperation Organization as the ninth official member at the last 23rd summit of the organization.

Yerkin Tukumov noted in his speech that “Iran is a geographical, cultural and historical neighbor of Kazakhstan, and therefore its security and prosperity are of exceptional importance for the people of Kazakhstan.”

The sides noted the high level of dynamic political dialogue based on mutual support at both bilateral and multilateral levels, as well as interest in the development of trade and economic cooperation. The growth of trade turnover between the countries by 20% was also emphasized, as a result of which it reached $528 million by the end of 2022.

The meeting of representatives of the expert communities of Kazakhstan and Iran was also an opportunity to discuss the expansion of cooperation in the field of transport and logistics through the development of international transport corridors. In particular, the experts emphasized the special role of the international transport corridor “Aktau International Seaport – Astana International Seaport”.

The dynamic development of relations between the two countries in the cultural and humanitarian sphere was also noted. The expanding opportunities for Kazakh scientists to visit Iran to study rare books and manuscripts were discussed. The tracks of interaction in the field of exchange of students and teachers, as well as special courses are planned.

The sides expressed mutual interest in further promoting Kazakh-Iranian relations both at the bilateral and multilateral levels, including through strengthening cooperation and the potential of the expert community of the two countries.
