A new analytical digest titled The Future of the Agro-Industrial Complex: The Impact of Artificial Intelligence and New Technologies, prepared by Anna Alshanskaya, Head of the Economic Policy Analysis Department at the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan, has been published.
This digest is devoted to analyzing the future of the agro-industrial complex through the lens of technological change.
At the current stage of global development, the food system is facing a number of challenges, including a shrinking agricultural workforce, degradation of natural resources, growing demand for food, and geopolitical instability. Under these conditions, artificial intelligence and new technologies are becoming important factors in shaping new models for improving the efficiency, sustainability, and adaptability of agriculture.
According to estimates by the World Economic Forum, the digitalization of the agricultural sector through the use of AI could generate an additional increase in aggregate GDP in low- and middle-income countries amounting to USD 450 billion per year, which corresponds to nearly 28% growth.
At the center of the author’s analysis are current tools and solutions that can contribute to strengthening food security, enhancing the sustainability of agriculture, and modernizing agri-food systems.
