An expert discussion on water safety issues in Kazakhstan and Central Asia was held at KazISS

On March 5, 2026, the Kazakhstan Institute for Strategic Studies under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan (KazISS) hosted an expert discussion on the topic “Water Safety in Kazakhstan and Central Asia”.

The meeting was moderated by KazISS Director Zhandos Shaimardanov. Representatives of government bodies, research institutes, relevant analytical organizations and international organizations took part in the discussion.

Experts discussed key aspects of ensuring Kazakhstan’s long-term water safety. Particular attention was paid to issues relating to domestic water resource management and cooperation among Central Asian countries in this area.

Participants noted the importance of coordinating efforts and developing joint approaches aimed at ensuring sustainable water resource management and mitigating potential risks.

The event was attended by representatives of Ministry of Water Resources and Irrigation of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources, the State Enterprise ‘Kazhydromet’, Institute of Geography and Water Security JSC, National Hydrogeological Service Kazhydrogeology NJSC, Information and Analytical Centre for Water Resources NJSC, as well as the Executive Committee of International Fund for Saving the Aral Sea.

The expert meeting served as a platform for professional exchange of views and development of proposals to strengthen Kazakhstan’s water safety and foster regional cooperation in Central Asia.
